Beneficial Duas and Reflections on KONY2012: 3/9/12

Imam Mohammed Baqir (a.s.) has said that after every mandatory prayer, there is no better invocation than the Tasbeeh e Fatima (a.s.). If there was any other, more effective, way of Praising Allah, the Prophet (a.s.) would most certainly have instructed his daughter about that.
Imam Jafar e Sadiq has said that reciting the Tasbeeh e Fatima (a.s.) after every compulsory prayer is better than performing a thousand genuflections (sujood.)
What is Tasbeeh Fatima (a.s.)??

ALLAHO AKBAR (34 TIMES)
ALHAMDULILLAH (33 TIMES )
SUBHAN ALLAH (33 TIMES)
One should say La ilaha illAllah once after reciting the Tasbeeh.

IMAM BAQIR (A.S.) SAYS ONE WHO SITS QUIETLY AFTER EACH MANDATORY PRAYER AND RECITES 3 TIMES THE FOLLOWING , ALLAH WILL PARDON ALL HIS SINS:

I seek forgiveness from the Lord (testifying) There is no God other than Him The Living and the Everlasting Of Majesty and Splendor And I turn to Him In Repentance.

CHAPTER ONE
MAFATIH GENERAL POST-PRAYER DUAS

IMAM HASSAN 'ASKARI, THE ELEVENTH IMAM, [A] SAID: "THERE ARE NO QUALITIES ABOVE THESE TWO: FAITH IN ALLAH AND BEING BENEFICIAL TO MUSLIMS.“
BIHAR-UI-ANWAR,

THE HOLY PROPHET [S] SAID: "WHEN YOU MEET EACH OTHER THEN INITIATE GREETING (AS-SALAMU…) AND EMBRACE; AND WHEN YOU SEPARATE FROM EACH OTHER, THEN DEPART WITH SEEKING FORGIVENESS.“
BIHAR-UL-ANWAR, VOL. 76, P. 4

THE HOLY PROPHET [S] SAID: "TEACHERS AND STUDENTS BOTH SHARE IN REWARDS BUT OTHER PEOPLE
ARE DEPRIVED OF THEM."

BIHAR-UL-ANWAR,

THE HOLY PROPHET [S] SAID: "DO NOT LOOK AT THE MINUTENESS OF THE SIN, BUT SEE WHOM YOU HAVE SINNED AGAINST.“
BIHAR-UL-ANWAR,
 & MUSTADRAK AI-WASA'IL, VOL. 11, P. 330

Amir ul Mu'mineen Ali [a] said: "He who sells his next life for his present life in this world, loses both of them.“

PROS AND CONS DISCUSSION
Pros:
HELPING OTHERS
-ENCOURAGES US TO BE PROACTIVE. HOW?
DISCOVERED A PROBLEM. (WAS IT REALLY DISCOVERED? HOW DEEP DID THEY
DIG?)
Cons:
Government hasn’t done anything until now
Nicely played the emotional card
Ambiguous?
Let me tell you how to solve your problem… and make a profit in the process
Why now ? Why 2012
Shouldn’t have people done something when Kony was actually actively raiding Uganda, not now that he has been inactive for 5 or 6 years.

Issues to consider:
• This is a 2004 project, why now? Why 2012?
(Why release a trailer 2-3 months before the release of your video if this issue is so
important??? Are you not are wasting time by doing so?)
• Who is Kony and where is he today?
• Is he running for office? Then why stamp the date?
• Appropriate reaction? Awareness vs Action?
• People need an outlet (recent social unrest, wall street, etc), why
not give them one?
• Possible social experimentation? (Y2K)
• 8 million in revenue, 1 million in support to Uganda?
• Is something better than nothing?

The numbers are wrong.
I’m talking about the amount of money that Invisible Children spends on active aid, as opposed to advocacy. I understand that their mission is primarily advocacy – my question is whether this is what’s best at this part of the conflict.
They’re working on the CharityNavigator score
Great! I think Invisible Children does lots of great work. I wouldn’t know about any of this if it weren’t for them. All I want you to do is decide if an organization that focuses on filmmaking and advocacy is the best way to end the conflict.
They’re doing a good thing at their heart.
I don’t know, and I think you should think about that too. Invisible Children often talks about getting rid of Kony, but doesn’t talk about its implications or how it supports doing that. Killing one man isn’t likely to quash the entire organization, nor will it help his past victims. Certainly the world would be better off with him captured or killed, but what is Invisible Children doing to this end? It professes to speak against violence but uses fiery rhetoric like “STOP AT NOTHING.” KONY 2012 is trying to raise awareness of a war criminal, but what is this going to achieve? It’s similar with breast cancer – when we’re all aware, then what? This is film #11.

Reflection on Kony 2012

Discussion Lead by Sr. Safiyyah
Points touched on:
  • Emotional Appeal of Videos like Kony 2012
  • How to Present ourselves in the 21st century as Muslims.
    • It is no longer the time of “missionaries” going to peoples doorsteps and handing out flyers at the bus stop, isn’t the attraction anymore. To present Islam and ourselves we need to act the way Islam wants us all the time, in front of all our friends.
  • History of Kony, the Ploy of Museveni, CIA trained.

WFNYS 3/16/2012 with Br. Salahudeen

Bismillah,
WFNYS 3/16/2012 with Br. Salahudeen: Quran/Discussion/Sports
Salam All,
Please Note the new time!! We start at 8pm.

This week we have a special guest, Br. Salahudeen. He is another one of our active community members that is living a life of action; exceptional by example. It is difficult to state his service for Allah (swt) to the community in these short sentences, but hands down. To many of us in the community, especially those who attended MCS in the 90’s and early/mid 00’s, he is/was one of our greatest role models and truly a father figure. It is a pleasure and honor to have Br. Salahudeen join us this week.

This lecture and discussion will explore our duty as Muslim youth living the West.

For those who like we will do Salat Jama’at in the masjed at 7:45pm before our session.

We will begin at 8pm (sharp iA). This way we can get to sports by 11pm and subsequently get home by 1am.

Presentations by Hamed Eramian (he finished his ppt so iA he will be on time), M. Sajjad, and Ali Reza

We have reserved Turf soccer and Basketball court at the same time. For the first time we will have a choice whether we want to play turf soccer or basketball court
Thanks,
Fi Aman Allah.

This week (3/9/2012) we have a special guest, Sr. Safiyyah
As per our discussion last week (the Ayatollah Bahjat video), we know we need to put the knowledge that we have into action. It is useless and often counter productive to continue to acquire knowledge without putting it into action. Sr. Safiyyah is an educator that is living a life of action. Inshallah we should all take this opportunity to learn from her and inshAllah also lead by example.

Everyone, PLEASE BRING YOUR NOTEBOOKS....to take NOTES. :)

Thank you
